2026 LARC Field Day

LARC plans to participate in the ARRL Field Day this year! Field Day (arrl.org)

Signup below to help setup/tear down, be a Phone operator or logger, or a CW or Digital operator.

When:

  • The event runs: June 27th 2:00pm to June 28th 2:00pm
  • Besides Operators, we need volunteers to assist setup & tear down. (Signup below)
    • June 26th at 3:00pm (antennas)
    • June 27th at 12:00pm (site setup)
    • June 28th at 2:00pm (post-event teardown)

  • Positions include: CW Operator, Phone Operator, Phone Logger, and Digital Operator
  • New licensees who are willing to learn are welcome!

What:

Field Day is THE premiere annual amateur radio exercise encouraging Emergency Communications preparedness. Sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) In the United States, it is typically the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the nation, often with over 30,000 operators participating each year. Field Day takes place the fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC (1400 EDT) Saturday and running through 1800 UTC (1400 EDT) Sunday.

LARC will be operating as K8UNS. The exchange we send to others we work is  4A MI

  • K8UNS is LARC’s club callsign. All Field Day stations at the site will transmit using that callsign.
  • 4A is our “operating class”, which means we will be operating 4 transmitters simultaneously (2 Voice, 1 CW, 1 Digital) and on non-commercial power (think generators, battery, solar, etc.).
  • MI means we are in the Michigan ARRL Section.

There will be light snacks and bottled water available for operators. A late-night pizza run, and early breakfast run will be made for those who operate during the overnight hours.
