LARC Past-President Mike Cononie, KE8CEH, is seeking participants for traffic handling and the SE Michigan Traffic Net:
Hello fellow operators!
The Southeastern Michigan Traffic (SEMTN) is looking for Net Control Stations and Traffic Handlers. I invite you to listen in and see what we do nightly at 2215 on the Spirit of ‘76 repeater (146.76, minus offset, 100hz CTCSS).
We are part of the ARRL’s National Traffic System, an organization that learns, practices, and advances our abilities to handle “traffic” (formal, standard formatted messages) into and out of our local area. You may be familiar with the wildfires out west, or the ice storms in northern Michigan, or even much more localized events like that attacks on 9/11. In all events, traditional communication infrastructure is either destroyed, or utilized at it’s maximum capacity, leaving many people unable to communicate. That is where the NTS comes in. We meet every night to keep our skills sharp and active, and are perpetually standing by to assist when called upon, when traditional communications are otherwise unusable.
For more information on our net, please visit https://sites.google.com/view/semtn. I started my journey into emergency communications by simply listening to this net, and now I am several thousands of messages deep into it. Whether you are willing to learn traffic handling, would consider taking a shift being Net Control, or are simply checking in to support our numbers, all participation is welcomed and appreciated.
