Scouting’s Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) in October needs your help!

LARC member and FARL President Michael Fluegemann, KE8AQW, is involved with the Scouting program, and has asked us to help “boost the signal” in recruiting local Amateurs for involvement in this year’s JOTA and local activities.

On October 21 from 10 am – 4 pm at D Bar A Scout Ranch in Metamora, MI, Mike’s setting up a few HF radios along with DSTAR, Echolink, and DMR to give scouts visiting for the Fall Signature Event an opportunity to get on the air.
Also plans to make a Morse Code demo area where they can play with flashlights and a CPO & straight key. Lastly, a “Fox Hunt” (needs to borrow “fox” radios, can anyone loan a couple) and have a few volunteers teach them how to use the radios to try and find them.

Callsign K8J is reserved for the Metamora event and MIke’s making QSL cards for the scouts (and to mail) as well as uniform patches.  And at this point he’s still looking for a few more volunteers to assist.

Anyone who is coming to the camp would need to complete the BSA Youth Protection Training module online if they are not already registered volunteers.

It would be great for our club’s membership to be radio active that weekend to talk to the scouts and to monitor the various frequencies/connected nodes.

Two Flyers are attached below, one “For Scouts” (and those involved in Scouting), and another “For Radio Clubs” (directed at hams who can help with the event itself, on site, or by working Scouts running JOTA stations.
Mike also needs assistance with other matters related to Scouting and JOTA.
If you want to give him and the Scouts a hand this October, please contact him directly:
