New Website and FT8 Presentation

Hooray, Hooray, the updated LARC website is online!
Dane has informed us that the redesigned, WordPress-based version of livoniaarc.com is now up and running.
There is no longer a Member Log In, content is open to all. There are easy links to various key items like events and activities.
We will be posting “breaking news” and other timely info without blasting your email box with every new bit of info.
A “Join/Renew” tab is directly accessible from the home page, where you will be able to renew your LARC membership via PayPal (2021 Dues are now being collected). Memberships expire at end of calendar year, though there is a bit of grace period. Your annual membership dues make continuation of club activities possible. Prompt payment is appreciated, especially without last year’s SWAP income, and uncertainty concerning 2021. Since everyone’s driving less and not doing Starbucks, renewing your club membership should inflict absolutely no pain!

FT8 Presentation:

This notice from Don, AC8TO;
Dear amateur radio colleagues,Thursday (10/8) evening, I’ll be doing a presentation on the FT8 digital mode for amateur radio.  I’ll be presenting for the Southeast Michigan DX Association, but it will be virtual on Zoom and anyone with an interest is welcome.Thursday October 8, 7:00 pm (US Eastern Daylight Time) [Zoom link deleted] FT8 is a digital communication mode that was released in the summer of 2017 by its creators, Joe Taylor, K1JT, and Steve Franke, K9AN.  It is optimized for fast, reliable contacts with distant stations using weak signals.  I’ve used it to make contacts in all 50 US states and about 180 DX locations spanning every continent.  I’ve worked places as far as Australia many times using a backyard vertical antenna with about 80 watts of transmitter power.Please feel to join in if you are interested.  There may be a small amount of SEMDXA business at the online virtual meeting, but the main topic will be the FT8 presentation.  If you have already seen one of my past FT8 presentations, there will be some overlap, but I have added some new material on FT8 “Fox / Hound” mode for high rate DXpedition use.

FYI Don’s earlier FT8 presentation is posted in Downloads on the SEMDXA.org website

This is an opportunity to either learn about this mode for the first time, or for those more experienced to possibly learn some new operating tips.
